PIARC Italy announces the National Competition The Roads of the Future – Imagine Your Road for university students, professionals and experts in the field, private companies, public administrations, road and highway managers.

PURPOSE

The Competition’s purpose is to stimulate and encourage creativity and promote innovations aimed at meeting present and especially future road mobility needs. The reference is particularly to the aspects of safety, especially of weak users, taking into account new forms of mobility, energy saving, environmental, social and economic sustainability, resilience of infrastructure, durability and maintainability of works throughout their life cycle.

APPLICATION

For the “PIARC UNIVERSITY AWARD” section, students in master’s degrees, students in specialized post-graduate’s programs, and students in Ph.D. programs in the faculties of Engineering, Economics, Law, Statistics, Geology, and Architecture at Italian universities who are such as of January 1, 2023, regardless of age, may participate. Graduates or Ph.Ds. at Italian universities who received their degrees after January 31, 2021, may also participate.

All EU and non-EU citizens who are enrolled, graduate or Ph.Ds. and Ph.Ds. students at an Italian university faculty are eligible to apply.

For other sections, there are no restrictions, and applications can be submitted by individuals as well as engineering firms and companies.

Submission of papers by April 1, 2023

AWARD CEREMONY

The award ceremony will be held at the XXIX PIARC Italy National Convention in May 2023.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND SCORING

originality of the proposal (maximum 25 points)
scientific relevance (maximum 20 points)
validity and applicability (maximum 25 points)
degree of transferability to multiple contexts (maximum 15 points)
relevance in terms of sustainability (maximum 15 points)

The winning candidate or group of candidates will be entitled as a prize to the following:

Presentation at the XXIX PIARC Italy National Convention, May 2023
Free annual membership to PIARC Italy
Publication of the paper in the series “The Roads of the Future” of the DEI publishing house
Presentation in the Italian Pavilion during the XXVII PIARC World Road Congress Prague 2023
